Marketing the USA

Like most girls I know, I love watching Project Runway (at least for now while it's on Bravo).  This week, the designers' challenge was to design opening ceremony outfits for US Olympic athletes.  Since the games kicked off today, it seemed like as good a time as any to check out what the athletes actually wore.  There are a few sites out there that show opening ceremony outfits for a number of countries, and I must say: the blazer is back in a big way.

It also brings up an interesting point.  Whether it's voting for the next president or designing sportswear for the world stage, our generation is certainly having an impact on marketing the USA to the rest of the world.  I often think about that during big events like the Olympics, but we also market the USA every time we talk to someone from another country or take an international vacation.  So, regardless of how you represent the country, here's how Ralph Lauren and Terri from PR think we should be seen.  Btw, Terri really should've won this challenge.  She was right on the mark.
